I think its day 10? I was planning on keeping an accurate count and I’ve already lost it 2 weeks in haha. Last nights trainer tempo ride/brick run was TURBOcharged. I felt fantastic, was able to hold my power intervals on the bike no problem and kept a faster than normal tempo on the run. I changed up my breakfast to what I now call my “power packed breakfast” and I think that had a positive impact for sure. Only time will tell.
Sushi for lunch today!
Class again tonight after work, only one though, and then off to the gym for a pool/resistance workout. I need to remember my watch so I can get an accurate T-pace. I’m not even sure if its in my swim bag now that I think about it …
Its STILL wicked cold out, although the forecast has it warming up this weekend which will be nice for riding a few hours Sat and Sun. Oh yeah and 3 day weekend! Get pumped!
So I missed the recap of week 1 at the end of last week, but thats ok nothing special, just a normal first week back getting things in order and seeing where I am at. School started again last night. I am just taking 2 classes this semester to keep chipping away at the new degree. Both classes are on Monday nights thus my rest day, although I am starting the 100 pushups (hundredpushups.com) and twenty pullups (twentypullups.com) programs just for fun on my off and swim days. On my swim days I am also going to incorporate a circuit light weight/plyometric routine since I will be at the gym anyway. Another night on the trainer tonight, followed by another cold brick run … cant wait for summer
Yesterday I did another FTP test and found out how much the “offseason” has hurt me this year. I lost some wattage as expected, but have a benchmark for this training phase and for this year as a whole.
Today I headed to the gym for a 1000yd TT to get my swim pace t-pace. LB got me a h2o audio interval for Christmas and I was so pumped to try it that I forgot my stopwatch. I did my 1000 yards anyway and enjoyed my music while doing so! The h2o audio is great and is a welcome addition to long boring swim sets. I will head back to the gym Friday to swim again and remember to take my watch in with me.
It is still freezing cold here and tomorrow I will be running outside again brrr. Even worse this weekend I will be riding outisde. Im shivering just thinking about it.
Rest Day! LoL. Mondays are my scheduled rest days as starting next week I will have double classes on Mondays after work. It will be nice to have a day of physical rest after long training weekends. Im using today to finalize my training schedule and actaully get it on a calendar. LB got me a H2O mp3 player case that works with my ipod shuffle for Christmas, I am stoked to try it out. No pool days till Wednesday though. It is wicked cold outside so although I am pumped to get back on the bike, I am dreading the ice cold rides. Hopefully it warms up soon.
I’ve been thinking more about the 2010 season and decided that I wanted to keep traveling to a minimum this year since I traveled A TON for races in 2009. In lieu of that, I came up with a new lineup:
Smithfield Sprint – 3/27
Kinetic Half – 5/8
Tidewater Oly – 6/12
Patriot Half – 9/11
IMAZ – 11/20
Minor travel involved for Kinetic, and the rest are local before big travel for IMAZ. It’s always nice to support the local races too.
I ran 3 miles last night and didnt feel all that great, but I attribute it to being sick still – oh and not having done anything for a month too. LoL. I wish my nose would unclog. sigh.
Soooo yeah. The Turkey Trot was definitely just that. A trot. I finished in like 50:34 or something and felt like crap. I remember in IM training knocking out 48 min 10ks without even trying. It was nice to be out running again though.
Since then I’ve been kinda sick (sore throat, stuffy nose, cough … the usual progression) and have promptly settled into doing a whole lot of nothing. Until this week. I get back on the wagon this week and do about 3 weeks of “get ready” workouts to get myself ready to start into spring HIM training. Ill probably be spending that time in the gym hitting the treadmill/cycles/weights since its cold. Once my HIM training schedule kicks in, Ill get back outside. Im still sick, but hey might as well sweat it out.
I’ve also started into the Paleo way of nutrition. Today is my first day. It seems to be going well so far, but hey lets be real, its not even lunch yet. I think properly timed nutrition is one thing that held my training back a little this past year, so I want to try and iron that out this year. Best to start out now while training level is low and modify as necessary.
Still chipping away at my second degree, I picked up a couple of classes this sememster since my training level will only be HIM hours. I should be able to knock them out without too much trouble. I’ll get there someday.
Time to eat more fruit …
Signed up for Ironman Arizona today. It sold out in 25 minutes! Official date is 11/21/2010. Get pumped!
Didn’t do a whole lot over the weekend, besides rake alot of leaves. I figure I’ll stay “recovering” up through Thanksgiving this week and then get back into it. Im signed up for the Turkey Trot 10k on Thanksgiving day so that should be a nice kickoff.
So I was reminded yesterday that I had better get my ass in gear to sign up for classes for the upcoming semester. Since I didn’t attend the fall semester due to IM training I have to go visit my advisor, re set up my GI Bill, get a new parking pass, etc. all by Saturday when class registration opens. I have a limited number of classes I can take due to also maintaining a current career so I need to get on them before they fill. I think I’ll try to make it to see my advisor today.
CR social was last night which was fun, I stayed later then most since I’m not in training at the moment and had a whooping 4 Blue Moons. LoL.
So I just went outside briefly and its a ridiculiously nice day. Someone get me out of the office STAT!
So I went out and ran jogged a couple miles last night and it felt good. I wanted to keep going but limited myself. I really dont want to push my recovery time and not be able to swing back into training when I want to.
I’ve been working on my plan for next year a little bit and its looking like Ironman Arizona will be my ‘A’ race for the year. Working back from that, Im looking at probably the Chesapeakeman AV in Maryland in September again, the Mooseman IM 70.3 in New Hampshire in June and the Shamrock Marathon here ar the beach in March. I’ll probably toss in some other smaller(shorter) local races during the year as well just to keep my sanity.
So since I’m not training at all at the moment, I’ve got some spare time on my hands, so what better than to start up my blog again!
I’ve been feeling pretty lethargic the past week or so since IMFL. Last week I attributed it to racing hard and a long drive home, but this weekend I really didnt do a whole lot of anything notable and today I feel exhausted. I still have yet to do any form of exercise since the race from fear of prolonging recovery, but I feel like I need to get outside. It’s a nice day today so I might strap the shoes on with no electronics and just jog a couple miles to make myself feel better.
I got my m-dot tat over the weekend. I added a little symbol below it from IMFL and plan on adding symbols for every other IM race as I go along. I thought that was a pretty neat idea.
